tahoe rim 100 - scouting the course

Out and about with my pacer and friend Scott yesterday.  Climbed from the lake up to about 8500 ft in two miles. A bit over 2000 feet.  Decided I need ascent poles.  How to care it all logistically interesting.  Weather in 70's at lake, 50's at top of mountain at mid-day.  Kinda chilly in the wind.  Race starts 5 am tomorrow.
